Welcome!!!

Katherine's Bubby Biscuits are gourmet dog treats made in my lovely little home kitchen and tested by my chocolate labrador, Jake. My husband and I are dedicated to feeding our dog nothing but quality ingredients, and that is why it is just as important for me to provide your pets with the same quality ingredients we would choose for Jake. I hand-select each ingredient for my recipes, and all ingredients are human grade. That means no by-products. If your pet has an allergy, let me know and I will gladly substitute so your furry friend can still enjoy these flavorful treats. Bubby Biscuits even make great gifts for your friends and family members. Tell me the occasion and Jake and I will be sure to make the perfect gift for you to give.

Easter Expo

Well the Easter Expo at the Hampton Inn did not go quite as expected. Some of our new flavorings did not arrive in time to be featured. We were a little disappointed in that, but the Elvis's Favorite: Peanut Butter Banana did a great job standing alone. Fortunately, the new Cheesecake and Cinnamon Roll flavors are now available for purchase. It is going to continue to be a busy week for Bubby Biscuits as we prepare the orders we received. Congratulations to Lindsay Weller of Ft. Riley on winning the free 16 oz. box of Elvis's Favorite treats. Please keep checking back for updates. I apologize for the long leave of absence from the blog. I have been quite busy preparing for the arrival of my daughter, who is expected to make her appearance in only four short weeks!

Work in Progress

Bubby Biscuits has been very busy this past month. I have made a lot of progress with our products, packaging and online store. Of the samples that went out to dogs here in Kansas, I have heard nothing but great things from the owners. One person described the Chesapeake Bay Cheddar biscuits as "crack for dogs". I even received my first order- a one pound box of Bluebubby Biscuit, set to go out this week. This order has been such an encouragement to all the work that has been done so far.

There is still much to be done though. I am currently working on a sweet potato treat that will be geared towards diabetic and obese dogs, but healthy for ALL dogs. Sweet potato has actually been shown to lower blood sugar in diabetic dogs, as well as provide a variety of vitamins and nutrients, such as fiber, calcium and iron. I have included a link to an article that lists some "super foods" for your fuzzy buddy. Some other ingredients we use that have numerous health benefits for your dog are banana, peanut, oat, and whole wheat flour. Click the link to check out another website I found, which has a list of these ingredients and others, with a description of their dietary benefits.

Another thing I am working on for Bubby Biscuits is ingredients labels. After believing my printer was broken beyond repair, I had started looking for a replacement. Two nights ago, my husband decided to give a last ditch effort to fix it. Lo and behold, he found a quarter-sized tuft of dog toy stuffing and a tiny, one-inch, plastic shotgun stuck way down inside of it, near the paper feeder. After removing the foreign objects, the printer started working again just as it had before. Great success!

Hopefully as the improvements continue to our product line and packaging, more orders will start to come in. I have a lot of faith in the potential of Bubby Biscuits. All we need is a little support, some friends to spread the word, and more dogs to try our treats. I guarantee there is something in our line for every dog to enjoy! And if there isn't, we will be more than happy to accommodate that dog!

Liver Biscuits

Okay, so the first batch of chicken liver biscuits came out of the oven just moments ago, and I will be the first to tell you that they are amazing. There is so much liver in each treat, your dog is going to go crazy for them. In fact, Jake was staring me down, licking his chops, while he waited for his first biscuit to finish cooling off. I think this is a new savory favorite in the Smith household. I was a little uncertain at first about whether or not I should use the biscuit cutters to shape these treats, but I think they actually cook best when they are baked in little drops on the cookie sheet. Then you get a little bit of crunchy around the outside and just the right amount of chewy on the inside. What dog wouldn't love something like that??

I think one of the best parts of my job so far is the excitement I get from experimenting with the various recipes. I get an idea of what I want to do, but I am not always certain how it will turn out. When the first batch comes out, I'm either blown away or scrambling for a fix before the next batch goes in. It's kind of like chemistry with edible ingredients. If I had to guess Jake's favorite part of the job, it would be taste testing everything. He's completely spoiled rotten at this point. I thought I had done some damage before, but now I can't go in or out of the kitchen without him thinking he is getting something out of the trip. Sometimes he looks so pitiful I can't help but give him the treat anyway. I know, I know. I'm not helping him or myself by rewarding him in this way, but he's just so darn cute!

Last day before the work week...

Well, it has been a wonderfully relaxing weekend here at the Smith home. I have done a ton of baking, a ton of eating, and a lot of laughing. I think Jake might have even gained a couple of pounds from all the taste testing I've made him do. It feels like the last four days have gone by really quickly though. They have been filled with webpage building, advertising, baking, packaging, decorating, purchasing, etc. Starting up a business is no easy task, but we will get there eventually. I am just so excited about all the things I have to do, that sometimes it doesn't feel like there are enough hours in a day. Fortunately, my husband likes to make me take breaks and baby Leila likes to make me take naps. I want to take a moment to thank all the people that have supported this endeavor so far, especially my family. Thanks a bunch everyone!!!
As for today, it was a relatively short day in the kitchen for me. I got the holiday cookie samples iced with our special dog icing, and they are now ready for shipment. They look delicious and they taste even better. I am going to be spending the next couple of weeks coming up with new flavors and recipes. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to email me at bubbybiscuits@yahoo.com I would love to hear what my consumers want for their pets.

Christmas Morning

Well it is Christmas morning and I have been hard at work in the Smith Family Kitchen for a couple of hours already. Yesterday I had announced that peanut butter banana biscuits were next in the Bubby Biscuit line up, and now "Elvis's Favorite: Holiday Edition" cookies are finished baking. Jake really seemed to enjoy them. He kept following me around, thinking I had another treat in my hand. I guess they still smelled like peanut butter and banana cookie dough. The recipe was a big success, and I am so excited to be offering samples of these delicious treats to our Bubby Biscuit followers. My husband and I even tried a couple and found them to be quite tasty, even for human consumption. I thought it might be nice to add a honey glaze to the top of the Christmas shaped biscuits, and it turned out to be a great idea. The only thing that could make these gourmet biscuits any better would be a dog-friendly peanut butter icing. For those of you wanting to purchase Bubby Biscuits for your pets, we will have price listings posted soon. For now, please inquire about your free samples.
